Chapter 14

Deadly Flash

The Deadly Flash incident was an indiscriminate killing that occurred in December 2003.

When the criminal invaded each terminal via the network, he displayed an image that struck the human subconscious with a flashing light, damaging the target’s physiological functions. Due to this harsh effect, the victims were strongly stimulated in the hypothalamus and suffered from symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, seizure, convulsions, and impaired consciousness, resulting in seven deaths worldwide.

This is clearly different from a conventional hacking case and it is recorded as the only cybercrime that killed people before the later Pluto’s Kiss.

The investigation was extremely difficult, but eventually it was determined that an unemployed person living in a secluded mountain hut in the Shinshu Mountains was the criminal who created the virus.

He was arrested by the FBI at Washington Dulles International Airport, trying to fly to the United States.

Later, he was sentenced to death after the international law for online sedition was applied for the first time in court.

He is currently serving in Florence Prison in Colorado and is awaiting execution.

His motive is still unknown.

Also, it is unclear what his intended target was.
