Chapter 08

Brain (Computer Virus)

The world’s first computer virus was “Brain,” a program released in 1986 by two brothers from Lahore, Pakistan.

A certain software company, struggling with illegal copying of its software, inevitably created and spread this “virus that only displays warning text.”

The producers of the virus had no malicious intent, and only created the program out of necessity.

However, as it passed from person to person, the computer virus became a little more dangerous and evolved into a worldwide entity that could completely destroy data.

The virus creators’ company still exists today.

Translator’s Note:
Brain was indeed a real virus, but it was mostly harmless.
